Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Her family is the fourth Roberts family to have resided in Atlanta. This started with her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in the theatre at a young stage. As a student of Emory University, he performed on stage in a number of shows in Atlanta. While stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he was commissioned into the air force in 1953. Betty Lou Bredemus was part of the show as well. They got married in the year 1955 and their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana after he left the Airforce in 1957. In 1960 the family moved into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter as well as Betty Lou began producing a children's television program in Decatur, Georgia called Bum Bum and His Buddies. They financed the production themselves. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for 6 years. In 1965, they welcomed two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
